Scam Alert: Fake Job Offer & Document Processing Fraud
Multiple reports have emerged involving the phone numbers 0720 998 016 (M-Pesa name: James Nganga) and 0728 596 438 (M-Pesa name: Stephen GPO). These individuals are targeting job seekers with fraudulent employment offers.
How the Scam Works
The scammers reach out with what appears to be a genuine job opportunity. The offer may seem urgent or very easy to qualify for, making it attractive to victims.
Once you accept the job, they claim that your onboarding process has started. You are then told that certain “mandatory requirements” must be completed before you can begin working. These may include:
Certificate of Good Conduct
Insurance cover
KRA PIN registration or updates
Medical tests or clearance
Training or onboarding fees
They will then offer to “facilitate” these processes for you and request payment via M-Pesa to the numbers listed above.
What Actually Happens
There is no job. The documents are never processed. After receiving payment, the scammers either disappear or continue requesting additional payments under new excuses.
Key Warning Signs
Requests for payment to secure employment
Pressure to act quickly or risk losing the opportunity
Communication via personal phone numbers with no official company channels
No formal interviews or verifiable company details
Payments requested through personal M-Pesa accounts
How to Protect Yourself
Do not pay any money for a job opportunity
Verify companies through official websites and contacts
Be cautious of unsolicited job offers
Report suspicious activity and numbers to authorities
If you encounter these numbers or similar schemes, avoid sending any money and share this information to help protect others.
